Agriculture in Ban Mai Nai Soi Camp in December 2013: Plot 1: for Self-Help Activity: Variety of vegetables grown in the farmers’ plot for self-help, for consumption and for sale.

Plot 2: This plot is the demonstration farm in which refugees learn about farm management, investment, profit and loss from farming business. So far, the farm yields have enabled farmers to sell vegetables for income and invited more neighbors to join the activity.

Ban Mae Surin Camp On October 24, 2013, 300 liter liquid Bio-fertilizer from fermenting fish was produced in order to distribute to refugee farmers. The nitrogen from fish fertilizer will add nutrient to plants and stimulate growth, feed plants through roots and leaves, and improve soil fertility. Liquid fish fertilizer is a faster and more effective way to deal with plant growing.

During October, 22-30, 2013, mushroom house, bean sprout room and frog pond were constructed.

Mushroom continue to yield and the harvest are given to COERR Community Service Workers to distribute to the vulnerable refugees in both Ban Mai Nai Soi and Ban Mae Surin camps.

COERR Mae Sod On December 5, 2013, Agricultural Fair were organized in Mae La and Umpiem camps. In Mae La, there were 500 participants. Activities are exhibition about various farming activities such as making pest repellent substance; award for outstanding farmers; booth for farmers to sell their farm products, including youth groups to sell fish raised in their program for income generation, etc.

Agricultural Fair in Ban Umpiem had approximately 400 participants who joined the exhibition about farming know how such as making fertilizers, beansprout cultivation; competition of vegetable products such as pumpkin, chilli, chinese cabbage, morning glory, etc.; award for beautiful basket of vegetables, outstanding farmers, outstanding kitchen gardens, etc. The Fair in both camps were successfully organized by COERR staff in various projects for the most benefit of the refugees especially the vulnerable groups in these camps.
